Getting Started: Fluke

As of the 6.2.6.0 release, CompuCal supports the Fluke 754 device for carrying out calibration activities out in the field. It allows you to download a Work Order onto the Fluke device and then bring it out into the field with you to carry out the calibration activity. Once the activity is completed the results can quickly and easily be uploaded back into CompuCal using the Calibrator Connect application.

To get started we need to make sure that the Fluke device is connected and ready to go. To do this we will need to download the driver so that a connection between your PC and the Fluke device can be established. Click here to download the latest driver.

Once the driver has been downloaded and installed, the next step we need to take is to download and install the Calibrator Connect application that will communicate between the CompuCal application and the Fluke device. To do this simply follow the steps below.

  1. Click here to download the installation package
  2. Right click on the downloaded file and select Extract Files…
  3. Extract the files to your desktop or another suitable folder which you have admin permissions to
  4. Once extracted, right click on the setup.exe file and select Run as administrator
  5. Follow the installation dialog of the Calibrator Connect application

After the application has been installed you will see a new desktop shortcut created with an image of a Fluke device as the icon.

The first time you open the Calibrator Connect application you will be presented with a Connection Settings dialog as seen below. Here you will need to enter the the Web Service Connection URL. You can find this on the About screen under the Help section in your CompuCal application. If your application does not show a URL next to Web Service Connection in the About screen please get in touch with us by clicking here and we can look into this for you.

Once you have entered and saved the Web Service Connection URL the login screen will appear. Here you will need to enter the Username and Password that you use to sign into the CompuCal application.

Now that we are logged into the Calibrator Connect application we are ready to issue our first Calibrator Work Order to the Fluke device.

From the system, create a Calibrator routine by checking the Calibrator check box on the Values tab of the Routine. Now we will issue the Work Order from the Work Screen. When issueing the Work Order be sure to select the Remote check box as shown in the screenshot below and then select Fluke from the Device list drop-down and select the Issue button.

Now that the Work Order has been issued we will go back to the Calibrator Connect application. Follow the steps below to retrieve the Work Order from the CompuCal application and download it to the Calibrator.

  1. Select the Retrieve from Application button and your Issued Work Order should now appear in the grid
  2. Next we will select the Port from the Ports drop-down list that the Fluke device is using
  3. Select the Fluke 754 device from the Calibrators drop-down list
  4. Now you can test the connection between the Calibrator Connect application and the Fluke 754 device by clicking the Clear Memory button

Please note that using the Clear Memory button will clear any existing Work Orders on the device. If you run into any connection issues where the Calibrator Connect application is unable to detect the Fluke device, please get in touch by clicking here.

Next we will select the Download to Calibrator button to start downloading the Work Order to the Calibrator.

Please note that if you have retrieved multiple Work Orders from your CompuCal application, when the Download to Calibrator button is clicked only the Work Orders you have selected in the Calibrator Connect app will be downloaded to the Calibrator. You can select multiple by holding the CTRL key on your keyboard.

Once you have completed the Work Order on your Fluke device you are ready to upload the results to your CompuCal application. Simply select the Upload to Application button and choose whether you would like to have the Work Order Completed on Upload or if the Labels have been updated.

Now that the Work Order has been completed and uploaded back into your CompuCal application you will be able to see all your results by viewing the Work Order.
